Thanks to our location, summer in Lüsen is ideal for hiking. It’s warm but not too hot, and there’s often a gentle breeze. The mountains around Lüsen are a paradise for hikers and mountain bikers. The peaceful South Tyrolean community is dominated by the 2,875-metre-high Peitlerkofel mountain, which you can walk around on a wonderful 5-hour hike. Challenging mountain bike trails can be found on the Lüsner Alm Alpine pasture – and in the valley, you can cycle on charming, leisure family cycle paths, which only have a few uphill sections.
Hiking in Lüsen is truly a delight. Thanks to our idyllic location at the end of the picturesque valley, your adventures can start right outside the door of our hotel in Brixen and environs. Hike across flower-filled meadows, through dense forests, along the river, and up to rustic Alpine pastures – or dare to go on high Alpine climbing tours in the Dolomites. Join us on one of our guided hikes or take part in one of the guided walks of the Lüsen tourist office. The reward is an unforgettable view of the Dolomites, the Rieserferner, and the Zillertal Alps.
Tip: Experience the three-hour cultural and gorge hike from Lüsen to Rodeneck Castle. Once you have seen the medieval walls and its famous frescoes, you can descend to the Rienz Gorge on a ruggedly picturesque route.
During your hiking holiday in South Tyrol, in Lüsen, both leisurely and challenging trails await you. In the mountains of South Tyrol, you can hike to a different peak every day. The Maurerberg, the Aferer Geisel, or the Pfannspitze on the Plose are all nearby. Mountain routes such as the Günther-Messner via ferrata or the Herrnsteige at the end of the Villnöss Valley make mountaineer’s spirits soar. The mighty Peitlerkofel in the east is the landmark of Lüsen. The 2,875-metre-high Dolomite King will please hikers, mountaineers, and climbers who want to prove their ability and endurance. Summiting the Peitlerkofel gives you one of the most fabulous vantage points in the Dolomites. Because the via ferrata is not too long and is also well secured with wire ropes, the summit ascent is suitable for most mountain enthusiasts with decent physical condition and via ferrata experience.

Lüsen is not just a paradise for hikers. The picturesque village is also the ideal destination for mountain bikers. All levels of difficulty can be experienced here from May to October. Uphill and rapid downhill sections or leisurely forest paths, incredible rock formations, and sleepy Alpine pastures – the diverse natural scenery around the Kompatscherhof will inspire you. From adventurous trails on the Lüsner Alm Alpine pasture to challenging climbs on the Würzjoch pass or Plose mountain, even crossing the Rienz Gorge – we would be happy to advise you on the best tours close by.
Tip: For your adventures in the mountains of South Tyrol, you can rent one of our four ultra-modern fully e-mountain bikes. Another mountain bike rental is located not far from our hotel. Directly at our hotel you will find a secure garage and tools. Tasty packed lunches to take on your adventures are also available on request.
The nearby natural swimming pond in Lüsen offers a welcome opportunity to cool down on hot days. Adults can relax on the spacious lawn while the little ones enjoy themselves on the slide.
