Genuinely Sustainable

Kompatscherhof officially owns a Sustainability Label

We’re proud that our continuous commitment to sustainability has now been awarded the South Tyrol Sustainability Label – and not just at Level 1, but at Level 2! This label, based on the stringent criteria of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), recognizes tourism stakeholders who care about the well-being of our unique nature and the people of South Tyrol. It shows that we don’t just talk, we act. With concrete measures, we’re committed to preserving our traditions and actively contributing to a sustainable living environment in South Tyrol.

Sustainability – our family project

Franz, the dedicated farmer, lovingly cares for the nature around the hotel, while Anni adorns Kompatscherhof with handcrafted decorations and herbs. Gerhard pampers you with fresh, local delicacies from the area, and Petra ensures that you have everything you need. For us, sustainability means not only responsibly managing resources but also offering authentic hospitality that is felt in everything we do.

What measures are we taking?

Hotel & rooms

  • Hay plaster
The natural charm of our new rooms is also created by a special wall finish: hay plaster – made from our own hay from the farm. A genuine natural product that brings the character of the Kompatscherhof into every room.
  • Laundry with care
We encourage our guests to be mindful when it comes to changing their bed linen or towels – washing less saves water and energy.
  • Careful waste separation
Waste is carefully separated at our hotel. Our staff receive regular training in this.

Energy & heat

  • Photovoltaic system
Our photovoltaic system is ideally positioned and generates up to 11 hours of electricity a day, which we can use into the evening hours thanks to our energy storage system. Surplus electricity flows directly into the hot water system.
  • Heat from our own forest
We heat using wood chips from our own forest and our neighbours’ forests. It doesn’t get more local.
  • Water from our own spring
Our drinking water comes directly from the farm’s own spring – fresh, local, and without long transport distances.
  • LED lighting
All indoor and outdoor lighting uses modern LED technology, controlled by sensors and optimisation software. Faulty LEDs are not thrown away but recycled.
  • Main switch in the room
To ensure no lights are left on and no appliances run unnecessarily when you leave the room, our new rooms feature a main switch by the entrance.
  • Maintenance of the systems
Fan coil units and refrigeration units are serviced and cleaned several times a year to ensure they operate efficiently and last as long as possible.

Food & kitchen

  • Regional and seasonal
We source food regionally and seasonally, depending on availability – giving every farmer a chance. This keeps transport distances short and supports local agriculture.
  • No food waste
A third of all food ends up in the bin these days, and we don’t want that. We utilise as much as possible of everything that is produced. Anything that can no longer be used goes on the compost heap and eventually turns into valuable soil.
  • No plastic bottles or straws
We do not use plastic bottles anywhere in the hotel. Only glass straws are used at the bar.
  • Cleaning products
We buy washing powder and cleaning products in large containers. A dosing system ensures that exactly the right amount is always used. And: we use only biodegradable products.

Mobility

  • Odles Card
With the Odles Card, our guests can use buses and trains throughout South Tyrol free of charge for the duration of their stay. A great alternative to the car, and one we’re happy to recommend.
  • Shuttle service
We’re here to help anyone arriving by bus or train: by arrangement, we can organise a transfer from the station or bus stop directly to the hotel.
  • Charging station for electric cars & e-bikes
A charging station is available for guests with electric vehicles. We also offer rental e-bikes: ideal for exploring the Lüsner Alm at your own pace.

The next step on our sustainable path

Achieving Level 2 of the South Tyrol Sustainability Label is a significant milestone for us. It shows that we’ve deepened our efforts by developing a concrete action plan and defining measures to reduce our ecological footprint. This process is regularly reviewed, which motivates us to continue working on innovative solutions and constantly improving our Kompatscherhof.
